PMIGL
2021 Virtual Symposium a Great Success!
We
had another successful Symposium this year! On April 23, 436
valued attendees joined us for our second all virtual Symposium.
What an exciting time for our chapter, to know that we applied
the principles we've learned from our speakers and we delivered
value in the new normal! Our many breakout speakers were
first class in their content and delivery. Our keynote, Ted
Ma, was up early on the west coast delivering his important
message on leadership with enthusiasm and an energy that carried
us throughout the day.
I'd
like to thank all of our marvelous volunteers, led by Synthia
Adams (Director of Symposium) and Asha Subramanian (VP of Professional
Development,) who stepped up to rock another world-class event
in southeastern Michigan. We were also delighted that we could
be joined this year by our sister chapter in Region 4, Huron
Valley. Thank you, Heather Benson, and your team for being a
part of this historic event for PMIGL.
Thank
you also to our sponsors who made this event possible with so
much generosity and enthusiasm. We couldn't have done it without
all of you!
To
our members, we hope you enjoyed the day and we want you to
feel comfortable giving us feedback on any part of your Symposium
experience so that we can continue to improve and deliver EXCELLENCE
while enhancing the PM profession.
Thank
you all so much for attending and supporting YOUR local chapter.
If there is something you would like to do or learn, please
let us know. We are here to serve YOU. If you're looking for
a way to volunteer in future events, please let us know and
we'll find something that fits your interest. Thank you again!
See you at the next event!

The
Benefits of Understanding Your Leadership Style
As we deliver value in the new normal by adjusting
to virtual interactions in lieu of face-to-face communication,
knowledge and demonstration of positive leadership styles are
important. How leaders are viewed can influence the outcomes
of objectives and goals set forth. Leadership vision transforms
into action, if accepted by the followers or team members. It
is imperative that one understands the leadership style that
is demonstrated to gain maximum positive results. Furthering
the understanding of the influence a leader has on followers
or team members, provides the guidelines for effective positive
leadership.

Inquisitive
Minds Win
Choose to be a fluid thinker and embrace an inquisitive,
growth-based mindset. This will help to build trust in a world
that’s a little sensitive right now! Inquiry, understanding,
self-awareness and growth are four key aspects we'll cover to
illustrate how great minds think alike... but Inquisitive Minds
Win.
Speaker: Gurjit
Toor
Gurjit
is always on the lookout to expand her horizons and uses her
experiences to build breadth, perspective and foresight into
both her personal and professional life. Clearly, she has more
than a few things on the go... and it's all on purpose! Of course
her 2 boys take the cake as her pride and joy, but her other
positions don’t fall too far behind.

Integrated
Project Delivery was developed as a solution to construction
projects’ adversarial relationships, low rates of productivity,
high rates of inefficiency and rework, frequent disputes,
and lack of innovation, resulting in too many projects that
cost too much and take too long to build.
Project
Management Professionals are proficient in Integration Management
for different aspects of a project. The PMBoK Framework is
applicable to any type of project, but when it comes to Integrated
Project Delivery, there are contractual, psychological, and
business management skills needed to successfully carry out
the management of a quality end product that mixes Team Culture,
Owner Business Objectives, and Contractor’s Financial
Goals.

Have
you heard what the new PMP exam for 2021 looks like?
Whether
you took the PMP exam years ago or have yet to take it, it’s
worth knowing what the new exam for 2021 is like. The new PMP
exam is comprised of:
- 180
questions (the previous exam was 200), there are still some
pilot questions that are not scored.
- 230
minutes to complete the exam.
- The
material from PMBOK® Guide Sixth Edition. (Yes, it is still
valid. The seventh edition exam is not expected until 2022.)
- One
additional break for a total of two 10-minute breaks for computer-based
tests. Breaks are optional.
- Questions
are a combination of multiple-choice, multiple responses, matching
(i.e. “drag and drop”), hotspot (i.e. “click
on a chart”) and limited fill-in-the-blank.
- 50%
of the questions are Agile related. These can also include conflict
management, motivation issues, scrum ceremonies, team roles,
comparing Predictive vs. Agile, leadership styles, and Minimum
Viable Product.
